CrackMapExec began in 2015 under the handle @byt3bl33d3r. For four years starting in 2019, @mpgn_x64 took over, adding plenty of tools and features. He stepped down in September 2023. During his tenure, work happened in two repositories—one private, one public—creating a 6–8-month lag that blocked many community fixes and additions. After mpgn_x64 retired, the project’s top contributors—NeffIsBack, Marshall-Hallenbeck, and zblurx—decided to merge efforts under one banner. They renamed the tool NetExec (nxc) and opened the code fully. All future patches, modules, and updates will flow into this single public repo. Today’s NetExec repository holds the latest code. It combines the original CrackMapExec functions with recent community-driven enhancements. The maintainers commit to regular releases and transparent development, inviting anyone to propose changes or contribute new features.
