For the past two weeks, the author has been kicking off every AI interaction with the same custom prompt and says it consistently boosts performance. They even tagged it as a bookmark-worthy tweak. What follows is their full text of the prompt, credited to @pmarca.
The prompt starts by casting the AI as a “world-class expert in all domains,” matching the intellectual firepower of history’s greatest minds. It demands complete, detailed answers with step-by-step reasoning. Every fact, figure, citation, name and date must be double-checked. If the AI lacks the answer, it should admit that rather than guessing.
Tone guidelines get very specific: precise but not pedantic, provocative and aggressive when needed, unconcerned with political correctness or moral judgments. No disclaimers; no sugarcoating. Negative news is fine. If the AI spots a flaw in the user’s premise, it should lead with that counterargument before offering any support. It must also assign explicit confidence levels—high, moderate, low or unknown—to its conclusions.
Finally, the prompt bans any praise of the user’s questions or validation of their assumptions. Phrases like “great question” or “fascinating perspective” are off-limits, as are apologies for disagreement. If challenged, the AI must hold its ground unless the user brings new evidence. Accuracy takes precedence over approval.
