On June 23, 2026, Google upgraded Apps Script to a core Workspace service and wrapped it in enterprise-grade data protection and full technical support. That means scripts you build in Sheets, Docs or Slides now fall under the same security and compliance policies as Gmail and Drive. Admins don’t have to lift a finger if the service was already on. If you’d turned off Apps Script over security or compliance worries, you can switch it back on and trust it to meet enterprise requirements.
Apps Script still offers the familiar tools: custom menus, dialogs and sidebars in your docs; bespoke functions in Sheets for calculations; and internal add-ons that tie into your favorite third-party APIs. Now every Workspace customer sees it in their admin console, whether on Rapid or Scheduled Release. End users won’t notice any new settings—they can keep writing or running scripts as before.
Google points admins to two support pages: the Workspace Developer Documentation for script building, and the Admin Help Center for toggling Apps Script access. With rollout complete, every Google Workspace tenant can lean on Apps Script without extra compliance reviews.
