Instagram is shifting its TV app from bite-sized clips to full-scale shows. After debuting on Amazon Fire and Google TV, the app is now rolling out on Samsung smart TVs. Meta’s team plans to add longer-form videos, multi-episode series, and live broadcasts to compete not just with TikTok and YouTube but with Netflix and Prime Video in the living room.
One feature in testing is “Series” for Reels on Instagram and Facebook, designed to group episodes into a single feed. On the TV side, users will see personalized channels—comedy, sports, specific creators—so finding what you like takes fewer clicks. The app will also support horizontal videos, matching traditional TV formats instead of just vertical clips.
Casting gets a boost too. You can beam Reels or items from your Saved tab straight from phone to screen, instead of opening everything on mobile first. And the app now shows Instagram Stories alongside Reels, bridging a gap that kept Stories off the big screen until now. Each of these tweaks points to Instagram’s push for a living-room foothold.
