SpaceX is set to test Starfall, a flat, disk-shaped reentry capsule, on June 23 from Cape Canaveral’s SLC-40. Weighing 4,630 lb and just 2.5 ft tall, Starfall can return up to 2,200 lb of cargo, roughly 30 times more per flight than current orbital-manufacturing capsules. Starship can loft 30–50 of these “server” satellites per launch, delivering the equivalent of dozens of Earth-bound data racks without land, power or cooling permits. Musk predicts space-based compute will beat terrestrial data centers on cost within two to three years. Two prototype AI1 satellites are due in early 2027, with full production slated at SpaceX’s new Gigasat facility by year’s end.
On the financial side, SpaceX kicked off its first public debt sale, targeting at least $20 billion through senior unsecured notes under Rule 144A and Regulation S. The proceeds will pay off a bridge loan in full, cover fees and fuel general corporate needs. This follows SpaceX’s recent mega-IPO that raised over $85 billion at $135 a share, pushing Elon Musk’s net worth past $1 trillion and giving the company ample liquidity for its rapidly expanding infrastructure ambitions.
