iOS 27’s first developer beta overhauls how you control AirPods inside the main Settings app. The AirPods pane still only shows up when your buds are connected, and it still lives at the top of the Settings list. What’s new is the structure: instead of scrolling through a long list of toggles, you now tap clearly labeled menus—each one paired with its own icon. That cuts down on clutter and makes it obvious where to find noise-cancellation controls, ear detection, or microphone settings.
Apple added a lot of new features to AirPods since the days of iOS 14, and the old settings screen couldn’t keep up. iOS 27 groups related options under headers like “Transparency Mode” or “Spatial Audio,” so you don’t have to hunt through half a dozen switches to change one thing. The result is a shorter, more focused main page.
There’s still no standalone AirPods app—fans have been asking for one for years—but this redesign brings Settings a lot closer to that ideal. Instead of scrolling endlessly, you open a menu, adjust what you want, and tap Back. It’s a simple change, but it turns a messy, sprawling list into something you can actually navigate without frustration.
