Amazon now lets anyone generate custom merchandise designs using AI prompts right inside the Shopping app. By tapping the Alexa icon or searching “customize,” users describe what they want—say a dog portrait on a tumbler or matching T-shirts for a family reunion—and the AI produces a mock-up. From there, you can tweak colors, fonts or layout by clicking suggested edits or typing in new instructions.
Once your design feels right, Amazon handles printing, packing and Prime-speed delivery through its Merch on Demand service. There’s no extra fee for the AI tool itself—you pay only for the final products, which range from polo shirts and hoodies to water bottles. Right now this feature is limited to U.S. shoppers.
This move puts AI-generated merch in front of millions of Amazon customers who may never have tried print-on-demand sites like Redbubble or Bonfire. Traditionally, those services targeted independent creators or small organizations. By embedding design tools directly in the main app, Amazon lowers the barrier for anyone who wants a custom item but doesn’t know how to use Photoshop or Illustrator.
Artists whose work trained many AI models might see this as another front in the debate over content ownership and compensation. Still, for everyday users, the process is quick: describe your idea, review AI’s take, make adjustments and check out. The full lineup covers T-shirts, V-necks, long sleeves, tank tops, quarter-zips, jerseys, raglans, hoodies, sweatshirts plus tumblers and water bottles.
