A16z is changing its Investor Relations team into a Global Partnerships group. The move reflects how tech now drives economic, military and cultural power worldwide. Instead of simply reporting fund performance, the team will link limited partners (LPs) to top startups and help founders access markets, regulators and distribution channels from day one. They’ll also bring in new institutional backers—sovereign wealth funds, development banks and strategic investors—that offer more than money: they offer geopolitical reach and large-scale deployment opportunities.
They’ve already put this into action. A16z arranged a deal between Luma and HUMAIN AI, which led a $900 million Series C and is now building a 2 GW AI supercluster in Saudi Arabia. They’re working with Kalshi on building a transparent, regulated framework for prediction markets with government leaders. And they’ve opened discussions in Tokyo, lining up corporate and defense partnerships after a meeting with Japan’s prime minister. For LPs, that global rollout means broader access to growth-stage deals and deeper market insights. Founders get a partner who can open doors at the highest levels—securing capital, customers and policy support in key regions.
