Google just added “Skills” to Chrome’s built-in Gemini features. Skills are saved prompts you trigger with a click or by typing “/” in the Gemini box. Instead of typing or pasting the same request—like “summarize this page” or “translate this selection”—you save it once as a Skill and reuse it instantly. That cuts out manual entry and speeds up any repeatable AI task in your browser. Your saved Skills sync across desktop installations when you’re signed into Chrome. Hit “+” or type “/,” pick a Skill, and Gemini runs it in your current tab—no extra setup. If your prompt needs data from multiple tabs, just open them first; the Skill will operate on all visible pages. This makes workflows like comparing prices or aggregating research notes smoother. Under the hood, Skills follow the same security checks as any Gemini prompt. If one asks to add a calendar event or send a message, Gemini pauses for your confirmation before moving forward. You don’t lose any of Chrome’s sandbox protections by using Skills. It’s a convenience upgrade, not a change in the risk profile.
