Anthropic’s Claude Code is getting a major desktop overhaul under the codename “Epitaxy.” Early versions hinted at playful animations but no clear purpose. Now we’re seeing a full power-user interface borrowed from Anthropic’s Cowork automation tool. The new layout puts Plans, Task tracking, and Diffs side by side. You can preview running code in-app and jump between multiple repositories—something the current single-session setup doesn’t allow. Behind the UI update, there’s a new Coordinator Mode. It turns Claude into a project manager that spins up and delegates work across sub-agents. Today, you can run sub-agents and agent teams only via the CLI. Coordinator Mode brings that into the desktop app with clear panels and visual controls. It targets the same parallel-agent workflow that OpenAI’s Codex “Magic TODO” offers, but runs everything locally instead of in the cloud. Anthropic also plans to let you build custom agents inside Claude Code. That should open the door for less technical users who want tailored coding workflows without touching the command line. Both Anthropic and OpenAI aim to ship these desktop tool updates as soon as next week. The focus has shifted from raw model performance to how well these tools fit into real developer workflows.
