Rill packs a full BI platform into a few commands. After running curl https://rill.sh | sh to install, you type rill init and answer three prompts—project name, OLAP engine (DuckDB or ClickHouse), and agent instructions. That generates a folder with YAML definitions for your data models, metrics, dashboards and agent configs. One more command, rill start my-project, spins up a local UI you can explore immediately.
Under the hood, Rill treats your metrics as code. You define models in SQL, feed them through DuckDB or ClickHouse, then declare dimensions, measures and time grains in YAML. When you query, Rill generates the SQL on the fly and returns sub-second results even at billions of rows. You get connectors for S3, GCS, databases and more. Dashboards and conversational BI both live in the same semantic layer, so business users can ask questions in plain English while analysts extend everything with SQL. Deployments tie into Git or CI/CD pipelines via rill deploy, and you can embed dashboards or expose metrics through a simple REST API.
